About JURP

JURP is the Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics, a peer-reviewed, online journal of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society. JURP is devoted to archiving research conducted by undergraduate students in physics and its related fields, and is a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and information by undergraduate students. Papers in experimental physics, theoretical physics, or educational research in physics are welcome.

JURP began with the April 22-23, 1979, meeting of the SPS National Council. The Communications Committee, chaired by Dr. Rexford Adelberger, recommended the "establishment of a new publication devoted to student work." The 1980 Council recognized the need for a potential editor, and in 1981, the AIP Executive Committee approved the founding of JURP with Dr. Adelberger as its editor. The first edition of JURP was published in 1982. By 1987, the SPS Executive Committee voted to make JURP an on-membership benefit for all SPS members, a step that was implemented in 1988. In 2002, JURP became an electronic journal.

After more than 20 years as its editor, in 2007 Dr. Adelberger retired from being the JURP editor, and the position was given to Dr. Dwight E. Neunschwander, who stepped down at the beginning of 2012.

In addition to being a peer-reviewed, online journal, the Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics (JURP) wants to provide important resources to undergraduates. JURP can be a resource for undergraduate students and Professors of undergraduates starting at the very beginning of research to the end publication. Students can submit papers and agree to be reviewers, but they can also use JURP as a resource to find summer REU's, learn how to present their research, find where they can present their research, and even find resources on how to best prepare a manuscript for publication.
