About JURP

The Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics (JURP) is a peer-reviewed, online journal of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society. JURP is devoted to archiving research conducted by undergraduate students in physics and its related fields, and is a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and information by undergraduate students. Papers in experimental physics, theoretical physics, or educational research in physics are welcome. Information for students wishing to submit manuscripts for possible inclusion in the Journal follows:

• Statement of ethics and responsibilities of authors submitting to AIP Journals

Eligibility

Each paper must be sponsored by a full-time faculty member of the department in which the research was done. This may be done two ways: (a) The faculty advisor may be listed as a co-author (and so identified), appearing last in the list of authors, or (b) the faculty member must express willingness to be acknowledged at the end of the paper.

Sponsorship

Each paper must be sponsored by a full-time faculty member of the department in which the research was done. A letter from the sponsor, certifying that the work was done by the author as an undergraduate and that the sponsor was willing to be acknowledged at the end of the paper, must accompany the manuscript if it is to be considered for publication.

Submission

Manuscripts may be submitted electronically (preferred), or a paper copy may be mailed to the Editor at the address below:

Bethany, OK 73008

Authors must include an email address (preferred) or telephone number where they can be reached. There are no submission deadlines, as JURP is published online. Papers are published to the website upon the completion of the peer review process.

Form

The manuscript should by typed, double spaced, on 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheets. Margins of about 1.5 inches should be left on the top, sides, and bottom of each page. Papers should be limited to fifteen pages of text in addition to an abstract (required, not to exceed 250 words) and appropriate drawings, pictures, and tables.

Illustrations

Line drawings should be made with black font or ink on plain white background. The line thickness should be sufficient to be reduced to column format. Each figure or table must be appended individually to the document or as a separate file or sheet.

Captions

A descriptive caption should be provided for each illustration or table.

Equations

Equations should appear on separate lines, and all equations should be numbered.

Footnotes

Footnotes should be typed and grouped together in sequence at the end of the manuscript.

Publication Information

The Journal is published online, with papers published as they are accepted. Selected articles from JURP may be featured in the SPS Observer, especially the summer printed issue, and possibly in Radiations, the official publication of the physics honor society, Sigma Pi Sigma. Those chapters designated as Sigma Pi Sigma Undergraduate Research Award winners are especially encouraged to submit articles..

Back issues of print copies prior to 2002 may be purchased by sending $US 15.00 per volume to the editorial office.
